New National Study Captures the Impact of Betting on the Big Game Among American Fans

BOSTON—January 28, 2020—Today, ahead of the biggest game on the NFL calendar, DraftKings reveals findings from a national consumer study of American sports fans, including how a staggering 82 percent are interested to place a legal wager on the championship game next month. In a nationally representative poll of over 1,000 randomly sampled, self-identified American sports fans, DraftKings’ “Football & Fandom: The Bet Effect on the Big Game” study examined the fan preferences and various impacts of sports gaming.

“The demand, advantages and potential of sports gaming are well recognized today, but our goal with this study was to add further evidence on just how impactful sports gaming platforms like DraftKings can be when fully realized,” said Matt Kalish, co-founder and president of DraftKings North America. “There is a clear desire among many fans to experience these products, which, in turn, shapes their overall engagement, and we are encouraged by what these findings mean for the future growth of sports betting in the United States.”

Though still a relatively limited market since the Supreme Court ruling in 2018, legalized sports betting in the US is already showing tremendous promise and popularity as the study finds nearly a third of (31 percent) American sports fans have placed a legal, online wager. For the championship game this season, the engagement potential among fans who bet is significant, given that 78 percent expressed being more likely to watch the whole game if they make a wager. The game itself is not the only beneficiary of increased engagement either, as 61 percent also reported being more interested to watch commercials during the breaks if they place a bet. Additionally, daily fantasy remains highly relevant among American sports fans with 81 percent wanting to play in a daily fantasy sports contest specific to the Big Game.

At DraftKings, the NFL continues to be the most popular sport among users both for daily fantasy and sportsbook. The majority of American sports fans share this affinity for the NFL too, and an impressive 75 percent are more interested to bet on NFL games than any other sport. Following the NFL’s conference finals, postseason play also proves to be an even more enticing option to place wagers as almost 70 percent of fans prefer betting on the playoffs over the regular season.

Manchester, NH (December 30, 2019) – The New Hampshire Lottery and DraftKings Inc. today officially launched mobile and online sports betting in New Hampshire. Those 18 years of age and older are now able to bet on their favorite teams heading into the New Year using DraftKings’ digital sportsbook. Governor Chris Sununu placed the Granite State’s ceremonial first legal sports wager on the New England Patriots to win the Super Bowl at Shoppers Pub + Eatery at Indian Head in Manchester alongside DraftKings co-founder and Chief Revenue Officer, Matt Kalish, and former NFL great Rob Ninkovich. DraftKings is the exclusive digital operator for sports betting in New Hampshire.

“Sports betting is the right bet for New Hampshire,” said Governor Chris Sununu. “We moved fast to get this done by partnering with a world-class company to provide a first-rate customer service experience and the state is poised to dominate the market. The launch of sports betting will also benefit our education system – a win for our kids.”

“This is a significant milestone and an exciting moment in the New Hampshire Lottery’s evolution, as sports betting represents a major addition to our portfolio of products,” said Charlie McIntyre, executive director, New Hampshire Lottery. “We are pleased to be working with DraftKings to introduce our players to a completely new way to win in New Hampshire and to continue maximizing revenue for education in the Granite State. DraftKings’ contract with the New Hampshire Lottery was approved in late November by the Executive Council after being selected through a competitive bidding process. As part of the agreement, New Hampshire will receive 50-percent of sports betting revenue, which will support the New Hampshire Lottery’s mission to drive funds in support of education in the Granite State.

“As a New England-based company, DraftKings is honored to launch our American-made sportsbook product in New Hampshire for the start of the NFL playoffs,” said Matt Kalish, chief revenue officer and co-founder, DraftKings. “We want to thank Governor Sununu, Director McIntyre and the New Hampshire Lottery for their commitment to launching safe, legal sports betting as soon as possible and we look forward to working with them closely for many years to come.”

DraftKings, which is headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, is set to open an office location in New Hampshire in order to work in closer collaboration with the New Hampshire Lottery. DraftKings will also operate as many as 10 retail sportsbook locations throughout the state.

DraftKings Sportsbook users will see that the app looks the same in all states where sports betting is legal, allowing for a friendly customer-first experience. New Hampshire state laws do not allow wagers to be placed on college teams from the state or college games taking place within state lines. Sports fans can place their bets on the DraftKings Sportsbook app via iOS and Android or online at Sportsbook.DraftKings.com.

DRAFTKINGS EXPANDS SUPPORT FOR VETERANS WITH THANKSGIVING DAY NFL POINT INITIATIVE

Exceeds $1,000,000 mark in financial support to Tech for Heroes and veterans causes

BOSTON (November 26, 2019) – DraftKings Inc. today announced that for every point scored during the professional football games this Thanksgiving, it is donating $1,000 to veterans’ nonprofit organizations. Expanding on its successful Tech for Heroes initiative which trains former military men and women in tech skills to help them earn high-paying skilled jobs after they serve us, the Thanksgiving games will raise at least $100,000 for veterans-serving charities that make an impact in DraftKings’ backyard, adding to the more than $1-million the company has already raised supporting veterans.

“DraftKings is proud to be an American-made success story.  We do not take for granted the opportunities afforded to us because of the sacrifices of our veterans, and we understand our responsibility to invest in our communities and the veterans who made this possible,” said Matt Kalish, Co-founder at DraftKings. “For Thanksgiving, we are so proud to build on our commitment to American veterans by supporting five nonprofits that we believe make critical contributions in our communities and the lives of our heroes.”

The five charities that DraftKings is partnering with are:

  • New England Center and Home for Veterans helps to equip veterans who are facing or are at-risk of homelessness with the tools for economic self-sufficiency.
  • Operation Chillout rescues homeless veterans from the street and provides resources for their ongoing recovery.
  • Patton Veterans Project: I WAS THERE Films, offers collaborative film-making workshops for veterans to tell their story.
  • Veterans Village offers 24/7/365 crisis intervention center intensive support services.
  • Vets in Tech connects veterans to the national technology ecosystem through education, employment and entrepreneurship.

Each charity will receive a minimum donation of $20,000 this Thanksgiving – $100,000 across all five organizations – with the potential for more money depending on the results of the day’s three featured games.

Tech for Heroes, only in its second year running, has trained over 150 veterans or spouses in tech skills with nine courses in five cities: Austin, Boston, Columbus (Ohio), Las Vegas, and San Francisco. In addition to learning coding and presentation skills, program participants develop a peer-to-peer network and earn a resume-ready certificate.

To date, the DraftKings player community has raised over $93,000 by entering and participating in Tech for Heroes Charity Contests. Customers have also taken part in other charitable contests offered by DraftKings. In October more than $119,000 was raised through “Pink ‘Em” contests which supported the First Down Fund, an initiative by Larry Fitzgerald, which works to prevent breast cancer and support people affected by breast cancer.

BOSTON (October 1, 2019)– DraftKings will be hosting its Tech for Heroes (TfH) initiative in Columbus next month, offering military veterans and spouses free, comprehensive, high-tech job skills training. Having launched in 2018, the Tech for Heroes program has benefited nearly 150 veterans in Boston, Austin and San Francisco and will debut in a new city, Columbus, on October 14.

“When Tech for Heroes was launched in Boston in 2018, DraftKings knew that we ultimately wanted to provide this opportunity to as many veterans as possible, and the best way to do that is through the expansion of this program,” said Paul Liberman, DraftKings Co-Founder and COO. “We couldn’t be happier to be offering Tech for Heroes in Columbus, and we look forward to connecting with some of the many honorable veterans in the area.”

Working in partnership with the national nonprofit VetsinTech, the two-week training in Columbus will be taught by a certified instructor from Galvanize, a coding and data science talent development company. The initiative will focus on teaching veterans and military spouses web development skills, and upon completion, students will receive certified proficiency through Galvanize. DraftKings employees will also work with the veterans to grow their understanding of employment opportunities at high-tech companies and to further support the veteran graduates pursuing careers in tech through mentoring.

“The Tech for Heroes program has made a significant impact on veterans in communities across the country over the last year, and we are thrilled to be expanding into new markets like Columbus,” said VetsinTech founder Katherine Webster. “We’ve received a great deal of feedback from veterans who have participated in Tech for Heroes since its launch, and we are proud to be working with DraftKings on using that feedback to improve this program and ensure we’re offering the best services available.”

Through the remainder of the year, DraftKings will continue to expand the Tech for Heroes program to additional cities across the U.S., training 100 veterans or military spouses by year-end. DRAFTKINGS ESTABLISHES “FREE TO BET DAY” TO COMMEMORATE PASPA OVERTURN ANNIVERSARY AND REFLECTS ON INITIAL SPORTSBOOK SUCCESSES

Annual Promotion Will Feature $514K in Total Giveaways for New Jersey Customers as Company Strives for Continued Growth in Year Ahead

BOSTON (May 14, 2019) – A year since the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) was deemed unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, DraftKings remains among the top operators in American sports betting, and has today established “Free to Bet Day” in recognition of the momentous occasion. DraftKings is awarding $514,000 in total giveaways to New Jersey customers, including a free $5.14 bet along with special odds boosts happening hourly. As additional states pass legislation, DraftKings is poised to swiftly enter new markets where countless more fans across the country can take advantage of such offerings and enhance their overall sports entertainment experience.

“The Supreme Court’s decision led to a crucial period of rapid growth and development at DraftKings, including our first-to-market launch in New Jersey, but none of our success in this first year of legalized betting would have been possible without our incredible customers,” said CEO and co-founder, Jason Robins. “Free to Bet Day is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to all our customers who have helped make DraftKings an integral part of American sports history and innovation, and with their passion and support we could not be more hopeful for what the future holds.”

During the past year, DraftKings Sportsbook has taken in more than 17 million bets, paid out over half a billion dollars in winnings and added both dedicated and casual bettors to its customer roster while boasting a 90-percent retention rate. In addition to being the first-to-market mobile and online sports betting product in New Jersey, the company has entered into relationships with retail partners such as Del Lago Resort & Casino (New York), Resorts Casino Hotel (New Jersey), Scarlet Pearl Casino Resort (Mississippi), Hollywood Casino (West Virginia) and Caesars Entertainment (Nevada) – including physical sportsbooks at Resorts (New Jersey) and Scarlet Pearl (Mississippi) – to expand the company’s presence across the nation.

“Having been founded in the US, it is exciting to see the number of states that have already moved to enable sports betting and we’re confident that over the next few years, even more states will adopt legal sports betting and follow New Jersey’s suit of developing a regulatory framework,” says Paul Liberman, co-founder and COO at DraftKings. “We look forward to working with these states to create both an engaging and safe experience for all of our customers.”

Most recently, Tiger Woods became DratKings Sportsbook’s most popularly bet athlete. After securing his fourth Masters title, DraftKings bettors were rewarded with over $2 million in payouts, as its sportsbook offered 10-1 odds on Woods going into Sunday’s final round at Augusta National.

“We work tremendously hard every day to ensure DraftKings Sportsbook offers the widest betting selection anywhere in New Jersey, and we strive to give the most back to our customers by consistently offering the best odds, and promotions in the industry,” said Chief Revenue Officer and co-founder, Matt Kalish. “The relationships with our players and their experiences on our platform are of the utmost importance, and we are proud to offer a premier, American-made product that delivers the ultimate engagement for fans.”

To take advantage of DraftKings’ Free to Bet Day and receive a free $5.14 bet today along with special odds boosts, customers in New Jersey can download and use the DraftKings Sportsbook app both for iOS and Android.
