New England-area service members to receive free classes as part of “Tech for Heroes” initiative
BOSTON, April 11, 2019 – DraftKings will host its third Tech for Heroes training in Boston, providing local recent and returning veterans and spouses with free, comprehensive, high-tech job skills training starting in front end web development. The Boston session, kicking off on April 22nd, is the third DraftKings has held in Boston. The company has also held trainings for veterans in Austin and San Francisco.
“Building on the success of the Tech for Heroes program last year, we’re excited to be bringing the training back to our hometown for a third time and hosting the course in our new headquarters,” said Paul Liberman, DraftKings Co-Founder and COO. “It’s truly an honor help train the men and women in Massachusetts who have served valiantly, as it helps us continue to build an even stronger connection to our local community.”
Working in partnership with the national nonprofit VetsinTech, the two-week training in Boston will be taught by a certified instructor from Galvanize at DraftKings’ new state-of-the-art headquarters. The initiative will focus on teaching veterans and military spouses web development skills, and upon completion, students will receive certified proficiency through Galvanize. DraftKings employees will also work with the veterans to grow their understanding of employment opportunities at high-tech companies and to further support the veteran graduates pursuing careers in tech through mentoring.
“Our team works so hard to train our country’s servicemembers and their families to allow them to find jobs in today’s world, and the Tech for Heroes program is proving that this mission is worth the effort,” said VetsinTech founder Katherine Webster. “Seeing the growth and hearing the feedback of the veteran community in Austin, as well as so many others last year, has inspired our team to assist DraftKings in achieving their goals to even greater heights.”
In the remainder of the year, DraftKings will expand the Tech for Heroes program to multiple cities across the U.S., training 100 veterans or military spouses.
