DRAFTKINGS BRINGS ITS HIGH-TECH SKILLS TRAINING PROGRAM FOR VETERANS BACK TO TEXAS

“Tech for Heroes” to be offered free-of-charge to Austin area service members

BOSTON, March 4, 2019 – DraftKings will be hosting its Tech for Heroes (TfH) initiative in Austin this month, providing military veterans and spouses with free, comprehensive, high-tech job skills training.

“Since launching Tech for Heroes in 2018, DraftKings has provided high tech-focused jobs skills training to recent and returning veterans and their spouses across the country,” said Paul Liberman, DraftKings Co-Founder and COO. “We’re thrilled to kickoff our 2019 Tech for Heroes veteran trainings in Austin. After a great first year, DraftKings is committed to building on that momentum and helping 100 more veterans in more cities in 2019.”

Working in partnership with the national nonprofit VetsinTech, the four-week training in Austin will be taught by a certified instructor from Galvanize, a coding and data science talent development company. The initiative will focus on teaching veterans and military spouses web development skills, and upon completion, students will receive certified proficiency through Galvanize. DraftKings employees will also work with the veterans to grow their understanding of employment opportunities at high-tech companies and to further support the veteran graduates pursuing careers in tech through mentoring.

“The Tech for Heroes program made a huge impact on the veteran community in Austin, and across the country, last year,” said VetsinTech founder Katherine Webster. “We’re happy to be working with DraftKings once again to bring this program back to Austin and serve such an important mission, training our nation’s veterans in the job skills needed to compete in today’s job market.”

In 2019, DraftKings will continue to expand the Tech for Heroes program to cities across the U.S., training 100 veterans or military spouses by year-end. For additional information on the DraftKings Tech for Heroes program and to inquire about joining a class, please visit DraftKings Tech for Heroes.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW BRUNSWICK STUDENTS WIN DRAFTKINGS PITCH COMPETITION AT MIT SLOAN SPORTS ANALYTICS CONFERENCE

Thomas Bobyn, Grant Frey and Micah Hesman Take Home Cash Prize, DraftKings Internships for New Esports Game Concept

BOSTON, March 1, 2019 – The University of New Brunswick’s Thomas Bobyn, Grant Frey and Micah Hesman won first place at today’s second annual DraftKings Pitch Competition at the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference. DraftKings, the leading sports-tech media and entertainment company, invited students from across the globe to submit a pitch for game ideas revolving around either a new fantasy sport, a novel way to play fantasy for a current DraftKings sport, or a new idea for the DraftKings Sportsbook.

“The winning idea by the University of New Brunswick team demonstrated a soundness of both game analysis and business application,” said Greg Karamitis, Senior Vice President of Fantasy Sports at DraftKings. “This competition really enables students to step away from the classroom and flex their entrepreneurial skills, and we appreciate the thoughtfulness each team displayed throughout the process.”

For their first-place efforts, Thomas Bobyn, Grant Frey and Micah Hesman will receive cash prizes, internships at DraftKings, which is headquartered in Boston, and lunch with CEO and Co-Founder Jason Robins. The second and third place teams will also receive cash prizes and special access to sporting events.

DraftKings whittled the applicant field down to just five teams. Each of the finalist teams had five minutes to present its game idea to a panel of judges, comprised of executives from DraftKings, professors from MIT, and fellow analytics industry experts. Students from a variety of universities and colleges competed for the grand prize.

This is DraftKings’ second year hosting the competition in partnership with MIT Sloan to drive innovation in their products and offer students the unique opportunity to have direct access to the company and its senior leadership to pitch their ideas.
