Part of Company’s Growing “Tech for Heroes” Initiative Now Active in Three States
BOSTON (October 19, 2018) – As part of its new Tech for Heroes initiative aimed at helping veterans find gainful employment in the tech sector, DraftKings Inc. announced today that it will be holding a free cybersecurity training class for current and returning Bay State veterans and military spouses who have experience in IT, Networking or CCNA certifications. This free, 5-day class, beginning next week on October 22, 2018, is being offered in partnership with VetsinTech and Palo Alto Networks, one of the leading companies in the cybersecurity industry.
“The core mission of our Tech for Heroes program is to give military veterans and their families the tools and training that will enable them to compete for positions in today’s civilian job market,” said Paul Liberman, co-founder and COO of DraftKings. “Now that we have successfully launched the program in three states, our goal moving forward is to not only grow the program by training as many veterans as possible, but also to expand our course offering to include specialized concentrations such as cybersecurity.”
This class is being offered as part of the company’s new Tech for Heroes corporate social responsibility initiative which was launched in June. Working with the national nonprofit VetsinTech, Tech for Heroes has provided high-tech skills training to over 75 veterans and military spouses in three cities across the United States.
The first training class was a 10-week course in front-end web development held in Boston and DraftKings has launched additional classes in Austin, Texas, and San Francisco. As part of this program, DraftKings’ employees are working with the veterans to grow their understanding of employment opportunities at high-tech companies and to further support the veteran graduates pursuing careers in tech. Efforts include resume development, career roadmapping and skills translation as well as peer to peer networking.
The Boston DraftKings Cybersecurity training class is open to current and returning veterans and military spouses in New England. All applicants must submit a copy of their Certificate of Release (DD-214) and a LinkedIn profile. Graduates who successfully complete the course will receive an Accredited Configuration Engineer (ACE) accreditation.
